GAFFNEY, SC (Sept. 24) – Despite scoring the opening goal of the contest, the University of Mount Olive field hockey program suffered a 2-1 double-overtime loss at Limestone in South Atlantic Conference (SAC) action on Tuesday afternoon.
With the loss, the Trojans drop to 4-3 this season with a 3-2 mark in conference play. Mount Olive entered the contest with a four-game winning streak in the series, but Limestone holds a 5-4 edge in nine meetings. Meanwhile, the Saints improve to 4-2 overall behind a 3-2 record in league play.

In the third quarter, the Saints found an opening in the UMO defense to tie the contest at 1-1 after Zoe Bergmann beat the goalkeeper one-on-one following a pass from Felicitas Herrero Martel at the 31:08 mark. At the end of the final two quarters, both sides registered six shots in the second half with the game forced into overtime.
UMO and Limestone each registered a shot on goal in the first overtime before the Saints scored the game-winning goal at the 74:24 mark to seal the 2-1 win.
Barrett totaled seven saves on 15 shots faced in 74-plus minutes in the cage.
Both sides tallied 15 shots in the contest while the Trojans held an 11-8 edge in penalty corners.
UMO returns to Ray McDonald Sr. Sports Complex on Saturday, Sept. 28, to face No. 7 ranked Newberry at 1 p.m.
