MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. — University of Mount Olive field hockey sophomore Nakai Mujaranji is once again taking the world stage, earning selection to represent Zimbabwe at the FIH Junior Women's Hockey World Cup in Santiago, Chile. The tournament runs from Dec. 1–13 and features 24 of the top U21 national teams from around the globe.
Held every two years, the Junior World Cup showcases the sport's rising stars, providing an elite platform for athletes under 21 to break through on the international scene. For Mujaranji, the opportunity is familiar—this marks her second World Cup appearance, having previously competed in the 2023 edition, also hosted in Santiago.
Zimbabwe opens competition in Pool B, beginning its campaign on Tuesday, Dec. 2 against Argentina, followed by matchups with Wales on Thursday, Dec. 4 and Belgium on Saturday, Dec. 6. Knockout rounds will follow group play as teams battle for a place on the podium.
Mujaranji's selection is another milestone in her developing career and a proud moment for both Zimbabwe and the University of Mount Olive program. As she prepares to face some of the strongest junior squads in the world, she continues to embody the dedication and international spirit that have defined her journey.
