DUE WEST, S.C. - Mount Olive women's lacrosse regroups after dropping their season opener, taking down Conference Carolinas foe Erskine College Flying Fleet by a score of 22-3.
INSIDE THE SCORE
Meaghan Michaud got the scoring started, finding the back of the net from an assist from
Kelly Young, one minute into the game. Erskine would quickly tie the game at one apiece. Three minutes into the game, and the Trojans takeover was underway. First a goal from Zoe Doughtery, making it a 2-1 game. In the same minute
Bria Hamilton, increased the lead to 3-1. In a seven minute span the Trojans scored seven goals, starting with Nola Welsche at the 26:39 minute mark, ending with a goal from
Shaelyn Yermal at the 19:46 minute mark. The Flying Fleet stopped the bleeding momentarily with a goal from Faith Flanagan, making the score 10-2. The Trojans offense kept humming though, adding another eight goals before the half, making the score 18-2. Eleven different players scored a goal in the first half.Â
The second half began with the Trojans scoring the next two goals. Erskine then scored the next two goals, cutting the deficit down to 16, 20-4. With just over five minutes left to go,
Chaija Olsson netted another goal for the Trojans making the score 23-6. With one minute left
Denae Haeussler scored the last goal of the game. Sealing the Trojans victory, 24-6.Â
MOUNT OLIVE LEADERS
Zoe Doughtery and
Shaelyn Yermal each scored three goals on the day. Five Trojans also finished with two goals.Â
ERSKINE LEADERS
Faith Flanagan scored three of the Flying Fleet's six goals.
