Box Score TIGERVILLE, South Carolina - The University of Mount Olive men's basketball team defeated the Crusaders of North Greenville University in a buzzer-beater Saturday afternoon in Conference Carolinas men's basketball action. UMO improves to 12-7, 6-5 on the season, while North Greenville falls to 6-11, 4-6.
INSIDE THE SCORE
Mount Olive opened the game with a made three-pointer and expanded their lead to 10-to-4 just before the first media timeout. UMO held the lead for a majority of the first half until NGU was able to use a streak of seven unanswered to take a 22-21 lead. The game was tied twice before the Trojans mounted a crucial 16-0 run that regained the lead for UMO and gave Mount Olive a 41-26 lead with 6:19 left in the half. North Greenville battled back to draw within five after ten unanswered points, but the Trojans held strong and took a three-point, 48-45 lead into halftime.
In the second half, the Trojans lead ended at the 18:02 mark as NGU was able to knot the game at 52. The game exchanged four more times before Mount Olive took the lead over at 61-60 with 13:45 remaining and did not see a threat until the final ten seconds. The Crusaders hit a vital three-pointer to tie the game at 87 and called a timeout. Out of the timeout, Alan Treakle received the inbound pass with nine seconds to play drove the entire distance split the Crusader defense and laid the ball up off the glass and the ball fell through the cylinder and put UMO up 89-87. North Greenville did have a chance for a last-second throw-in but the chance was denied and Mount Olive won.
MOUNT OLIVE LEADERS
The Trojans were led by Jonathan Mebane with 20 points. Alan Treakle, Darius Spragley, Johnny Hughes III, Cameron Robinson, and Michael Brown all added double-digit points with 15, 14, 13, 12 and 11 points respectively.
NORTH GREENVILLE LEADERS
The Crusaders had five athletes in double figures but were led by Dj Brooks with a team-high 21 points.
KEY MOMENT
The key moment of the game came in the last nine seconds when Alan Treakle scored what would be the game-winning layup driving the entire court in nine seconds to put UMO up by two.
