Men's Basketball Falls in Overtime Thriller at Ferrum, 93–91, in Regular-Season Finale

Box Score FERRUM, Va. — The Mount Olive Trojans wrapped up the regular season with a hard-fought effort Wednesday evening, battling back from a second-half deficit before falling 93–91 in overtime to the Ferrum Panthers at Swartz Gymnasium.

Mount Olive came out strong offensively, shooting over 60 percent from the field in the first half to take a 43–36 lead into the break. The Trojans controlled the paint early and used efficient ball movement to build an advantage, leading by as many as 11 early in the second half.

Ferrum responded with a surge after halftime, outscoring Mount Olive 43–36 in the second half to force overtime. The Panthers capitalized on second-chance opportunities and timely perimeter shooting to erase the Trojans' lead, tying the game at 79–79 at the end of regulation.

The overtime period featured multiple momentum swings, with Mount Olive knocking down key shots to stay within striking distance. Shane Peterson drilled two three-pointers in the extra frame, while Redford Dunton added a late triple to cut the deficit to two points in the closing seconds. Ferrum, however, sealed the game at the free-throw line to secure the win.

Peterson led Mount Olive with 18 points, shooting an efficient 5-of-5 from beyond the arc. Jaevian Alston added 17 points, going 11-of-13 at the foul line, while Christian Ananaba chipped in 14 points on 7-of-9 shooting. Shawn Wilson finished with 11 points, and Matt Kirby contributed 10 points off the bench.

Mount Olive finished the night shooting 50.8 percent from the field and outscored Ferrum 50–46 in the paint, while also holding advantages in fast-break points.

UMO will now turn its focus to postseason play, as the Trojans prepare to compete against No. 9 ranked King in the opening round of the 2026 Conference Carolinas Men's Basketball Championship. First-round action is set to begin Sunday, March 1 at 5 p.m., as Mount Olive looks to build on the momentum from its strong regular-season finale.
