Trojans Fall In Conference Carolinas Semifinals To Belmont Abbey Crusaders

Tigerville, S.C. – The University of Mount Olive women's lacrosse team fell to the Crusaders of Belmont Abbey College 11-10 in the semifinals of the 2018 Conference Carolinas Women's Lacrosse tournament.

How It Happened
Play-by-Play

FIRST HALF

  • Kiara Burke got the Trojans on the scoreboard first scored an unassisted goal just three minutes into the action.
  • Belmont Abbey responded less than 30 seconds later with a goal to tied the score up at one goal apiece.
  • Michaela Ciciarelli put Mount Olive ahead again as she connected with the goal off of a pass from Amanda Berger with 25 minutes left in the half.
  • BAC knotted up the score once again three minutes later to put the score at two-all.
  • There was one more round of exchanges as Jordan Shughrue joined in on the scoring putting UMO ahead 3-2, but BAC tied the score once again.
  • The momentum swung in Mount Olive's direction as they scored four unanswered goals to take a 7-3 lead with 49 seconds left in the half. Ciciarelli, Shughrue, Burke, and Keely Trail combined for the four-goal lead.
  • The Crusaders scored a goal with 21 seconds remaining as the score sat at 7-4 heading into the half.

SECOND HALF

  • Belmont Abbey came out of halftime cutting the Trojans lead to one goal, 7-6, as the Crusaders scored a pair of goals to open the half.
  • UMO retaliated with a couple of goals from Kali Ferguson to pull back ahead by three, 9-6.
  • BAC cut the Trojan lead to one again following a pair of goals that put the score at 9-8 with 15:27 minutes to play.
  • Shughrue put another goal in the net putting UMO up 10-8 but the Trojans could not hold off the rallying Crusaders who went on a three-goal run to tie and take the lead eventually winning 11-10.
