Trojans Take First Conference Loss At No. 8 Limestone

GAFFNEY, S.C. – The University of Mount Olive women's lacrosse team took their first Conference Carolinas loss on Saturday afternoon to the No. 8 Saints of Limestone College in Gaffney, S.C. Kiara Burke led the Trojans with four goals while Jordan Shughrue was close behind with three.

How It Happened
Play-by-Play

FIRST HALF

  • Limestone got the scoring action going first as they tallied two goals in the opening seven minutes of play.
  • The Trojans' Jordan Shughrue finally got UMO on the board with an unassisted goal off of a free position shot putting the score at 2-1 with 22 minutes to play in the first half.
  • The Saints scored three straight goals over the next 12 minutes to take a 5-1 lead before Kiara Burke recorded her first goal of the game on an unassisted shot.
  • Burke scored four minutes later following Limestone's sixth goal pulling the Trojans within three goals as the score sat at 6-3 with six minutes left in the half.
  • Limestone went ahead 8-3 but Shughrue tallied the last two goals of the half, completing a hat trick, as the teams entered halftime with the Saints leading 8-5.

SECOND HALF

  • The Saints scored a quick three goals right out of halftime going up 11-5 over the Trojans with 23 minutes remaining.
  • Michaela Ciciarelli scored on a free position shot breaking up the Limestone run that continued with two more goals right after hers putting the Saints up 13-6 with seventeen and a half minutes to play.
  • Mount Olive closed out the final 16 minutes of action scoring three goals to Limestone's one. Burke tallied her third goal off of a Nola Wesche assist and her fourth, the last goal of the game, on an assist from Jackie Kaderabek. Keely Trail got a goal in between the two Burke goals as shot caught a pass from Ciciarelli to score the eighth Trojan goal.
