Trojans On To Tournament Championship Game With 12-3 Win Over NGU

Tigerville, S.C. – The University of Mount Olive women's lacrosse team earned a trip to the 2017 Conference Carolinas Tournament championship game with a 12-3 victory over fifth-seeded North Greenville University on Saturday afternoon in Tigerville, S.C.

FIRST HALF

  • Freshman Kiara Burke put the Trojans on the board first with a goal just 35 seconds into the contest off an assist by fellow freshman Jackie Kaderabek.
  • The Trojans pushed their lead to two at 22:55 on an unassisted goal by junior Michaela Ciciarelli.
  • Senior Saffron Snethen singlehandedly doubled UMO's lead to 4-0  with 19:29 left in the half with back-to-back goals.
  • Following Burke's second goal of the half, North Greenville put together a 2-1 run to trim UMO's lead to 6-2 at halftime.

SECOND HALF

  • UMO continued to dominate the second half as the Trojans scored three more goals in the first 15 minutes of the second half to increase their lead to 9-2.
  • Freshmen Bree Richards and Maddie Wnuk pushed UMO's lead to nine at 11-2 with a goal each.
  • With just 28 seconds left in the game, sophomore Kriston Guerra scored on a free position shot as the Trojans captured the 12-3 win.

 KEY STATS

  • Snethen led the way for UMO with a hat trick in the win.
  • Also recording multiple goals for the Trojans were Burke and Wnuk with a pair of goals each.
  • Sophomore goalkeeper Samantha Thomson (W: 10-4) dominated between the posts, allowing just two goals on 11 shots, spending just shy of 50 minutes in goal.
  • UMO outshot the Crusaders, 27-12, while each team won seven draw controls.
