UMO Teams In Ninth And 10th Place After Day One Of 'The Trojan'

The University of Mount Olive men's golf "A" squad is in ninth place out of 13 teams and UMO "B" is in 10th place after 36-holes in "The Trojan" Monday at Walnut Creek Country Club. Only 15 strokes separate the top eight teams, with UMO "A" just another 10 shots back.

Nick Adams is just three shots out of the lead and tied for 10th out of 69 players with a 74-72--146. Adams birdied a pair of par-4 holes in the first round and two par-5 holes in the second round.

Jesus Valderrama is tied for 33rd with a 74-77--151. Valderrama birdied the 18th hole in the first round and carded a pair of birdies in the second round.

Liam MacAnally, playing on UMO "B", had the Trojans' best round of the day, carding a 3-under-par 69 in the first round. MacAnally overcame a bogey and a double bogey on the front nine with four birdies, then went bogey-free with two birdies on the back nine. MacAnally is tied for 35th after shooting an 83 in the second round.

Mount Olive "A" carded a 302-303--605, while Mount Olive "B" shot 306-311--617. Limestone tops the leaderboard with a 285-295--580, one shot of Newberry with a 294-287--581.

Griffin Brown of Limestone and Luke Atack of Newberry top the individual leaderboard at 1-under-par 143. Six players are tied at even-par 144.

The 54-hole tournament concludes Tuesday morning. The first group tees off at 8:30 a.m.
