Women's Lacrosse Concludes Regular Season With 15-5 Victory Over Coker

Box Score

Riann Daziel, Michelle Fortier, Saffron Snethen scored three goals apiece as University of Mount Olive concluded regular season play with a 15-5 victory over Coker in non-conference women's lacrosse Wednesday at Amon Field. With the win, Mount Olive became only the fourth team in NCAA II women's lacrosse history to compile 20 wins in its first two seasons.

Mount Olive (11-5) broke a scoreless tie one minute into the contest on Daziel's goal and the Trojans extended their lead to 6-0 with 21:36 left in the first half after goals by Fortier, Michelle Scannell and Heather Cockburn in a span of 88 seconds. Cockburn scored the final goal of the first half as the Trojans built a 10-3 halftime lead.

Trojan goalkeeper Hannah Knight recorded five saves in the first half before giving way to Sarah Snell to start the second half. Snell had three saves and her downfield pass triggered a Mount Olive clear that ended in a goal by Katie McGovern for the initial goal of the second half.

Snethen scored the Trojans' final three goals of the contest and put the margin at 10 goals.

Coker (3-10) got on the scoreboard midway through the first half as Mackenzie Baker assisted on pair of goals. Hayley Ferone scored a pair of goals for Coker, while Baker scored the Cobras' final goal of the game.

Mount Olive posted a 9-8 record in 2013 in its first year of women's lacrosse. The Trojans had the most wins of any first-year Division II women's lacrosse programs last season. Only Florida Southern, Georgian Court and Mercyhurst reached the 20-win mark by its second season.

Mount Olive is idle until Tuesday when the third-seeded Trojans play host to No. 6 seed Converse in the first round of the 2014 Conference Carolinas Women's Lacrosse Tournament. Game time is 4 p.m. at Amon Field.
