Box Score A pair of goals early in the second half broke open a close match and a late rally came up short as Mount Olive fell to Barton 4-2 in Conference Carolinas men's soccer Wednesday at Wilson, N.C. Bright Eto scored two goals in the final seven minutes for the Trojans.
After Mount Olive (0-6-0 overall, 0-2-0 Conference Carolinas) fell behind 1-0 early in the first half, Tanner Tolston's defensive gem kept the Trojans within a goal at halftime. Erik Pajunk's close-range shot from the right wing got past goalkeeper Aleksandar Drobac, who had to come off his line to challenge. The ball was rolling into an empty net, but Tolston caught up and back-kicked the ball just before it crossed the line.
Barton (1-4-1, 1-1-0) pulled away in the first seven minutes after halftime with two goals in a four-minute span. Dante DeLuca's header at 48:26 and Kevin Strassburger's shot at 52:32 extended the Bulldogs' lead to 3-0. Archer Bane added a goal in the 76th minute to give Barton a four-goal advantage.
Eto, a junior who transfered to Mount Olive this year, scored his first goal of the season on a 20-yard shot at 83:11 to put the Trojans on the scoreboard. He followed with a 25-yard blast in the upper 90 at the 86:38 mark.
Mount Olive was outshot 18-9. Drobac finished with three saves for the Trojans.
Mount Olive steps out of conference Saturday afternoon as the Trojans play host to USC Aiken. Match time is 4 p.m. at Amon Field.
