MARS HILL – The University of Mount Olive men's soccer team dropped a 6-0 decision to Mars Hill on Sunday afternoon at Ammons Family Athletic Center & Meares Stadium.
The Trojans faced an early deficit as Mars Hill's Edward Saia scored in the ninth minute to give the Lions a 1-0 lead. Mount Olive worked to respond but was unable to find the equalizer before Mars Hill added a second goal in the 29th minute, taking a 2-0 advantage into halftime.
Mars Hill added to its lead early in the second half, scoring in the 48th and 61st minutes to extend the advantage to 4-0. The Lions added two more goals in the final six minutes of regulation to secure the 6-0 victory.
Mount Olive finished the match with six shots, including one on target.
Abdoulaye Saine recorded the Trojans' lone shot on goal, while
Kevin Jimenez,
Leon Odongo,
Zao Cheron,
Connor Piwowarski and
Rami Bayoumi also registered attempts.
In goal,
Nick Cutlip made eight saves while playing all 90 minutes for the Trojans. Mount Olive also earned three corner kicks during the contest.
The Trojans move to 0-1-0 on the season, while Mars Hill improves to 1-0-1.
Mount Olive will return to action at home against Shaw on Tues, Sept. 1 at 7 p.m.
