Benson Claims Individual Title as Trojans Finish T-3 at Conference Carolinas Championship

SNOW HILL – The University of Mount Olive men's golf team turned in a strong performance at the 2026 Conference Carolinas Men's Golf Championship, highlighted by Shawn Benson capturing individual medalist honors at Cutler Creek Golf Club.

Shawn Benson claimed individual medalist honors after firing a four-under final round to finish at four-under 212, securing a one-stroke victory.

With the victory, Benson continues a dominant run for the Trojans, marking the second consecutive year a Mount Olive golfer has earned individual medalist honors after Oscar Lönnqvist captured the title in 2025.

As a team, Mount Olive finished tied for third place at +19, competing closely in a tight leaderboard. Emmanuel claimed the team championship at +5, followed by Barton at +9, while Erskine rounded out the top five at +20.

Benson led the way for the Trojans with consistent play throughout the tournament, opening with a +1 round before carding a -1 in round two and surging in the final round to secure the win.

Jonas Arnstrom Bakker added a strong finish for Mount Olive, tying for seventh place at +3. Lavrans Holm placed tied for 28th at +9, while Matthew Richardson finished tied for 44th at +16. Defending individual champion Oscar Lönnqvist rounded out the lineup with a tie for 59th.

Mount Olive's performance was highlighted by Benson's championship effort and the program's continued success on the conference stage, as the Trojans secured back-to-back individual titles at the Conference Carolinas Championship.
