WILMINGTON – This Saturday marks the first outdoor meet of the 2026 season for the University of Mount Olive Track & Field team where they took home seven first place spots, hit Provo marks, broke school records, and hit qualifying marks.
On Friday, the throwing team dominated, taking first and second places across the board. In the men's hammer throw
Micah Harrison threw a first place and Provo mark of 57.35 meters.
Matthew Heywood,
Antoine King, and
Jaylin Durbin followed in suit taking the next four places. In the women's hammer throw
Isabelle Grena took second place with a throw of 45.59 meters.
In women's javelin,
MacKenna Gallon took second with a throw of 33.39 meters and Freshman
Sara Lydsdottir took third with a throw of 32.46 meters.
On the track
Ayden Thompson took second in the men's 5000m with a time of 16:32.10.
On Saturday
Sigursteinn Asgeirsson took second in the men's shot put with a throw of 16.28 meters.
Jasmine Colwell threw a 43.52-meter mark to take first place in the women's discus event. In the men's discus,
Antoine King also had a first place and Provo mark of 52.15 meters and
Chris Harris took third with a throw of 47.28 meters.
In the men's long jump, dual athlete
Kobe Jones leaped 7.09 meters to take first and
Javariante Core had a second place jump of 6.89 meters. Jones also competed in the men's high jump making third with a jump of 1.97 meters.
Audrey Nelson broke a school record in women's pole vault taking fifth place with a vault of 3.05 meters.
In the triple jump,
Serenitie Johnson made third place with a jump of 11.03 meters and Core placed second in the men's triple jump with a leap of 14.60 meters.
Leland Smith,
Jason Hart,
Jacoby Pevia, and
Jamavie Glover placed first in the men's 4x100m with a time of 41.01 seconds hitting a qualifying mark.
In the men's 1500m,
Artem Meltsaiev placed second with a time of 3:59.89 minutes later taking first place in the 800m with a time of 1:57.08.
Zaria Washington competed in the women's 100m hurdles, placing third with a time of 14.41 seconds.
Essence Slate broke a school record, hit a Provo mark, and took first in the women's 400m with a time of 55.21, with
Heavan Roberts following with a time of 55.75 to take second place.
Leland Smith shares third in the men's 200m with a time of 21.61 seconds.
