GREENVILLE, S.C. (June 10) – University of Mount Olive men's track & field thrower Dominic Nutter was voted the Conference Carolinas Male Athlete of the Year on Thursday morning following an All-American campaign during the outdoor season.

Nutter becomes the fifth Mount Olive student-athlete to garner the league accolade and the first recipient of the award since 2017-18. He capped a decorated intercollegiate track & field career with a fifth All-American selection after placing seventh overall in the hammer throw at the NCAA Division II National Championships. Additionally, Nutter garnered U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Association (USTFCCCA) Southeast Region Field Athlete of the Year honors.

"I am more than grateful for the opportunity to be selected as the Conference Carolinas Male Athlete of the Year," said Nutter. "It is a testament to the amazing work my friends, family, and coaches have been able to put forward to help me succeed at the highest level and with the highest honors. Go Trojans!"

At the Conference Carolinas Championship, Nutter captured 14 points toward the teaming standings for the Trojans. He secured the Conference Carolinas crown in the hammer throw before placing fifth in the weight throw. Nutter also claimed the Conference Carolinas and UMO record in the hammer with a toss of 64.07 meters at the final meet ahead of nationals.

"It has been awesome working with Dom and helping him on his journey to being an All-American, again! Dom came here with bigger goals in our work than just nationals and we are already seeing the fruits of that labor with a trip to Germany and the World University Games in a couple weeks," said Associate Head Coach Justin Potter. "There is much more to come from this thrower from the O-H!"

The Athlete of the Year Award (one male and one female each year) is the most outstanding student-athlete for the year in the league. Per Conference Carolinas Directors of Athletics vote, nominations will be accepted from member institutions to only include conference-sponsored sports and all nomination information, statistics and accomplishments are solely based on athletically-related criteria.
