Nutter set to compete for Team USA at 2025 FISU World University Games

MOUNT OLIVE (July 15) – University of Mount Olive graduate student Dominic Nutter is set to represent the Trojans on the world stage next week as he will compete with Team USA at the 2025 World University Games held in Rhine-Ruhr, Germany.

The German cities of Bochum, Duisburg, Essen, Mülheim an der Ruhr, Hagen, and Berlin will be hosting the FISU World University Games Summer, from July 16-27 2025. Around 8,500 student-athletes and officials from over 150 countries will compete for medals in 18 sports – making this one of the largest multi-sport events in the world in 2025.

Nutter will compete in the hammer throw on Tuesday, July 22, at the Lohrheidestadion in Bochum, Germany. The finals for the event will take place on Sunday, July 27 for the competitors who advance from the qualification session.

A native of Johnstown, Ohio, Nutter recently completed a decorated intercollegiate career as a five-time All-American honoree. He garnered First-Team All-American honors in the hammer throw for the third time in his career after placing seventh overall with a toss of 61.28 meters at the 2025 NCAA Division II Outdoor Championship. Following his accomplishments on the national stage, Nutter was named the USTFCCCA Southeast Region Field Athlete of the Year and the Conference Carolinas Athlete of the Year.

The World University Games began in 1923 in Paris, France, and were held in Europe every two years until 1939. After its foundation in 1949, FISU organized an international biennial university sports event, which became 'Universiade' in 1959. Since 1959, the multi-sport event has been held every two years (in odd-numbered years), with both summer and winter editions. In 2020, the Games were renamed the 'FISU World University Games', and they have grown to become the most important competition in international university sport.
