INDIANAPOLIS (May 4) – The University of Mount Olive women's lacrosse program earned an automatic bid and the sixth seed in the upcoming South Regional of the NCAA Tournament following the release of the bracket on the selection show this evening.
The Trojans (11-7) will be making their second appearance in the NCAA Tournament and face No. 3 Embry-Riddle (16-3) in the first round on Thursday, May 8, at 3 p.m. Both teams will be traveling to Lakeland, Florida, as No. 2 seed Florida Southern (17-2) earned hosting rights in the two-pod regional. The Moccasins will await the winner of Mount Olive/Embry-Riddle in the second round of the postseason set for Saturday, May 10.
Tampa, the defending national champion, captured the No. 1 seed and hosting rights in the other pod. The Spartans (17-1) completed a three-peat in the Sunshine State Conference (SSC) following a 15-13 victory over Florida Southern in the league tournament. Tampa will receive an opening-round bye as the top seed and will face the winner of Lynn/Flagler. The Fighting Knights (14-4) and Saints (13-5) will meet for the second time this season in the first round of the Tampa pod.
The winner of each pod will face off the following week in the South Regional Championship to determine who advances to the championship site in Salem, Virginia.
