WINSTON-SALEM (Feb. 24) – After totaling 95 points and three individual titles on the final day, the University of Mount Olive men's track & field team placed second overall at the Conference Carolinas Indoor Championships hosted at the JDL Fast Track.
Converse claimed its first-ever league title after scoring 130 points to narrowly defeat the Trojans, who scored 127 points at the conference meet. Mount Olive tallied points in 10 of a possible 17 events over the two-day competition, including three event champions. UNC Pembroke placed third overall with 114 points.
In the triple jump, UMO scored 29 of a possible 39 points with five individuals among the top-eight scorers in the event. Freshman
Ryan Wilson-McCoy claimed his second-straight indoor title in the triple jump with a leap of 14.80 meters. Junior
Brendin Marks finished second following a distance of 14.27 meters while teammate
Andrew Pender rounded out the podium with a mark of 14.17 meters.
The Trojans recorded 25 points in the shot put, highlighted by a Conference Carolinas title from sophomore
Sigursteinn Asgeirsson, who produced a distance of 15.66 meters to place first overall. Senior
Nicholas Cloud also reached the podium with a third-place finish in the event with a toss of 15.36 meters.
