Harris sets league record; Trojans hit five NCAA marks

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (Feb. 15) – In the final preparation ahead of the league championship, the Trojans collected five NCAA Provisional marks at the D1 Pre-Nationals, including freshman Futoria Harris establishing a new Conference Carolinas record in the 60-meter dash.

Harris secured a first-place finish in the 60-meter dash and reset her Conference Carolinas and UMO record after crossing the line in 7.39 seconds. She hit the NCAA mark in the event and ranks seventh-fastest in NCAA Division II.

Sophomore Heavan Roberts captured a third-place finish in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.49 seconds to improve her league-leading mark in the event. She ranks second all-time in program history in the 200m.

In the triple jump, senior Karla Hormazabal placed second overall and reached the NCAA standard with a distance of 11.89 meters. Junior Keza Green established a new personal-best mark with an NCAA mark in the triple jump and finished sixth overall with a leap of 11.74 meters, which ranks third in the Conference Carolinas and fourth all-time at UMO.

Junior Kenisha Barnes earned a fourth-place finish in the weight throw after setting an NCAA Provo in the event with a toss of 17.13 meters. Additionally, sophomore Elin Rydqvist placed ninth with a distance of 15.66 meters.

Fellow junior Channie Jefferson finished third overall in the long jump with a leap of 5.68 meters to tie for third in Mount Olive history. Additionally, she placed fifth in the 400 meters with a time of 57.62, which ranks third at UMO.

Freshman Zaria Washington placed fourth in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.03 seconds, which ranks fifth all-time in program history.

Freshman Janara Bryant finished seventh overall in the long jump with a distance of 5.43 meters.

In the shot put, junior Cynthia Thomas registered a ninth-place finish with a toss of 11.31 meters, while junior Haniyyah Johnson qualified in the event with a distance of 11.02 meters.

The Trojans return to action next weekend on Feb. 23-24 at the Conference Carolinas Championships in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, at the JDL Fast Track.
