SALEM, Va. (Jan. 18) – Mid-year transfer junior
Haniyyah Johnson made her debut with the Trojans this weekend and shattered the UMO record in the long jump, as the Trojans collected four victories at the Finn Pincus Invite.
Johnson joined the University of Mount Olive women's track & field program this week as the spring semester got underway on Tuesday. She introduced herself to Pickletown and her teammates by setting a new school record in the long jump with a leap of 5.99 meters, placing her eighth in NCAA Division II. Johnson eclipses the previous record held by Malak Kafi of 5.68 meters which was set back in 2018.
Sophomore
Heavan Roberts captured a first-place finish on Saturday after crossing the line in 25.29 seconds in the 200-meter dash. Additionally, freshman Sanyaih Shields placed third overall in the event with a time of 25.95.
In the weight throw, junior
Kenisha Barnes secured first place with a toss of 16.31 meters on her fifth attempt of the competition. Sophomore
Elin Rydqvist improved her league-qualifying standard with a distance of 15.42 meters to earn fourth place and the ninth-best mark in program history. Senior
Rolanda Desir-Moreau placed fifth overall and improved her conference standard with a mark of 15.17 meters. Freshman
Jasmine Colwell also improved her league mark with a toss of 13.41 meters.
Senior
Karla Hormazabal reached the top of the podium after leaping a distance of 11.64 meters on Saturday in the triple jump. Freshman
Janara Bryant secured second place with a mark of 11.63 meters and junior
Keza Green finished fifth with a distance of 11.02 meters.
In the shot put, Colwell improved her conference-leading mark with a toss of 12.83 meters on her final attempt to finish as the runner-up while also moving to second all-time in the event at Mount Olive. Junior
Ashley Lindsey placed fifth with a mark of 12.17 meters on her first toss while junior
Cynthia Thomas finished sixth following a distance of 11.46 meters.
Junior
Channie Jefferson registered a second-place finish in the long jump with a qualifying mark of 5.49 meters, which sits fourth in the Conference Carolinas this season. Bryant joined her on the podium after placing third with a leap of 5.28 meters.
Senior
Tylyia Triggs recorded a time of 9.28 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles to place second overall while producing the eighth-best time in program history.
In the 60-meter dash, senior
Lasira Nicholson finished fourth overall after crossing the line in 7.83 seconds while Shields placed fifth with a time of 7.85 seconds on Saturday.
The 4x400-meter relay team of sophomore

Amiliana Simmons, and freshman
Joella Smith earned a third-place finish in the event after posting a time of 4:16.27.
The Trojans continue the indoor campaign next weekend on Jan. 24-25 with the VMI Invite held in Lexington, Virginia.
