LYNCHBURG, Va. (Jan. 10) – In its first competition in over a month, the University of Mount Olive women's track & field program registered four NCAA Provisional marks and six event victories while competing at The Burg Open on Friday hosted by the University of Lynchburg.
Freshman
Janara Bryant delivered a first-place finish and an NCAA standard in the triple jump following an improved mark of 12.06 meters, which sits second all-time in program history. Senior
Karla Hormazabal also established an NCAA mark with a leap of 11.79 meters to finish second overall. Junior
Keza Green placed fourth in the event with a distance of 11.40 meters.
Fellow freshman
Futoria Harris recorded a pair of event victories on Friday while hitting the NCAA provisional standard in the 60m and 200m. She posted a time of 7.51 seconds to place first in the 60-meter dash while crossing the line in 24.68 seconds to win the 200-meter dash.
In the 60-meter hurdles, junior
Channie Jefferson registered a time of 8.83 seconds in the prelims, which is the third-fastest mark in program history. She crossed the line in 8.95 seconds in the finals of the event to claim first overall. Redshirt senior
Tylyia Triggs hit the conference qualifying mark with a time of 9.43 seconds to place third. Sophomore
Keianna Mims and freshman
Zaria Washington each improved their conference standard with a time of 9.61 seconds, which ranks 10th all-time at UMO.
In the weight throw, sophomore
Elin Rydqvist secured individual medalist honors with a toss of 14.83 meters while junior
Kenisha Barnes placed second with a mark of 14.63 meters. Senior
Rolanda Desir-Moreau earned a third-place finish with a distance of 14.41 meters.
Hormazabal captured the event win in the long jump with a leap of 5.40 meters while junior
Essence Slate finished second overall with a mark of 5.36 meters. Green also reached the podium with a distance of 5.29 meters to place third overall.
Additionally in the 200 meters, sophomore
Heavan Roberts finished second overall after crossing the line in 24.86 seconds, which sits third all-time in program history. Freshman
Sanyiah Shields posted the sixth-fastest time at Mount Olive and placed fourth with a qualifying time of 25.48 seconds. Slate finished fifth overall with a time of 26.23 seconds and Washington claimed seventh after crossing the line in 26.66 seconds.
Mims competed in the 400 meters and earned a runner-up finish after recording a time of 1:02.47.
In the shot put, freshman
Jasmine Colwell secured second overall after a toss of 12.03 meters in Virginia. Barnes earned a fourth-place finish with a distance of 10.60 meters while senior
Kaitlin Kenan placed fifth with a mark of 10.50 meters.
Bryant hit the conference standard in the high jump after clearing 1.55 meters to finish third while recording the sixth-best mark in program history.
In the 60-meter dash, Roberts registered a runner-up with a time of 7.64 seconds, which is the fifth-fastest all-time at Mount Olive. Shields captured third place with an improved time of 7.87 seconds and senior
Lasira Nicholson placed fifth after crossing the line in 7.91 seconds.
The Trojans return to action next weekend on Jan. 17-18 for the Finn Pincus Invite in Salem, Virginia.
