Five Trojans garner CSC academic all-district honors

MOUNT OLIVE (June 24) – The University of Mount Olive women's track & field/cross country teams featured five student-athletes on the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team, which was announced by the organization last week.

Sophomore Kenisha Barnes, senior Vinesha Briggs, sophomore Trinity Frayer, senior Kiana Hatchett, and senior Danielle Trimbur received the academic accolade this year. Briggs, Hatchett, and Trimbur each collected the award for a consecutive year.

Barnes earned USTFCCCA All-Region honors this season in the hammer throw while boasting three marks in the top 30 in the Southeast during the indoor and outdoor season. She delivered a personal-best mark in the hammer throw with a distance of 51.86 meters at the UNCW Seahawk Invitational, which ranked fifth in the region. During the indoor season, Barnes held the ninth-best mark in the weight throw with a toss of 15.02 meters at the VMI Invitational, a personal best in her career. She is currently pursuing a degree in biology while maintaining a 3.78 grade-point-average.

A native of Clayton, North Carolina, Briggs was a three-time USTFCCCA All-Region honoree and Conference Carolinas Champion in 2023-24. During the indoor campaign, she was All-Conference Carolinas First-Team in the 400 meters and the 4x400 relay after capturing the league title in both events. Briggs also set the fastest time in the Southeast Region in the 400 meters after crossing the line in 56.52 seconds at the league championship. In the outdoor season, she captured the conference crown as part of the 4x400 relay team and set a new personal best in the 200 meters. Briggs is completing her bachelor's degree in exercise science and holds a 3.69 GPA.

Frayer garnered USTFCCCA All-Region status in the indoor pole vault while earning All-Conference Carolinas Second-Team honors following a runner-up finish at the league championship. She established a Mount Olive record in the event after clearing 3.35 meters at the Finn Pincus Invitational. Frayer is pursuing a bachelor's degree in veterinary science with a 3.88 GPA.

A native of Ruckersville, Virginia, Hatchett held a pair of top-20 marks in the Southeast Region during the 2023-24 season. She finished 16th in the region in the triple jump with a distance of 11.31 meters, which was set at the USC Outdoor Open. During the indoor season, Hatchett ranked 18th in the Southeast in the triple jump with a mark of 10.94 meters. She graduated with a degree in exercise science and maintained a 3.95 GPA. 

Trimbur was a USTFCCCA First-Team All-American after placing fourth overall at the NCAA National Championship in the javelin. She established a new Conference Carolinas and Mount Olive record in the event following a toss of 49.19 meters. Additionally, Trimbur was a USTFCCCA All-Region honoree and finished her career as a four-time Conference Carolinas Champion in the javelin. She captured seven individual titles during the outdoor season. Trimbur recently graduated with a bachelor's degree in agriculture science while holding a 3.93 GPA.

To qualify for CSC Academic All-District honors, student-athletes must be at least a sophomore academically and athletically, maintain a cumulative 3.50 GPA, and be ranked among the top 50 in an individual event in their respective region on the TFRRS performance list. Additionally, each institution is capped at five nominees in the sport of women's track & field/cross country.

Note, starting in the 2023-24 academic year advancement from Academic All-District submission to the Academic All-America ballot will be determined by subcommittees of the CSC Academic All-America program (formerly CoSIDA). Trimbur was chosen as a CSC Academic All-America finalist and advances to the national ballot with the CSC Academic All-America Teams being announced next month.
