MOUNT OLIVE (March 28) – Freshman
Serenity Harvey sets a new record for Mount Olive on Saturday, as the University of Mount Olive women's track & field program registered three NCAA Provisional Standards while competing at the 9th Annual Adidas Trojan Challenge hosted at Ray McDonald Sr. Sports Complex.
Harvey shows out at her first home meet with the Trojans by setting a new program record in the 200-meter dash in the finals with a blistering pace of 23.63 seconds, which also reached the NCAA standard. She secured a first-place finish in the event boasting the third-fastest time in the NCAA Division II and recording the fastest time in the conference for this season. She did not stop at just taking first place in one event but took first in the 400-meter dash with a time of 56.16 seconds to hit the conference qualifying mark.
Sophomore
Janara Bryant has been a vital athlete in the jumper's lineup as she delivered an outstanding performance in the triple jump and long jump. She currently holds the UMO record in the triple jump and placed first overall with a distance of 12.52 meters, which hit the NCAA provisional mark. She holds the first-place rank in NCAA Division II in the event following her performance on at Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational. Additionally, Bryant captured second place in the long jump after leaping 5.44 meters to reach the league standard.
Senior
Essence Slate also hits a NCAA provisional mark in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.07 seconds which ranks her second in conference and second in the meet.
In the hammer throw, sophomore Isabelle Greene posted a fifth-place finish with a toss of 49.38 meters, which hit the conference mark.
In the shot put, sophomore
Jasmine Colwell placed fourth with a toss of 12.77 meters, which was an improved conference mark and puts her first in the conference for the season. Additionally, Colwell captured first place in discus with a throw of 43.47to finish her day.
Freshman
Sara Lydsdottir claimed first place in high jump where she leaped 1.50 meters. Sophomore
Macie Inman followed in suit taking second also hitting the 1.50-meter mark. Freshman Charlotte Boehm finished fifth overall with a leap of 1.45 meters. Boehm also captured third in the long jump with a distance of 5.29 meters.
Freshman Audrey nelson claimed the first-place spot in pole vault getting 3.00 meters in the air.
Sophomore
Serenitie Johnson completed her day third in the triple jump with a leap of 11.19 meters.
Sophomore
MacKenna Gallon finished second overall in the javelin with a toss of 34.25 meters. While sophomore
Isabelle Grena takes the fourth-place spot with a throw of 33.42 meters.
In the 800-meter dash, three Trojans captured the second, third, and fourth spots in the race. Sophomore
Linn Andrea Lindevik captured second place in the 800 meters with a time of 2:22.53, while senior
Ruby Cofone placed third with a mark of 2:30.85. Sophomore Alexandria White finished the race fourth with a time of 2:30.90. Additionally, White recorded a third-place finish in the 1500 meters with a qualifying time of 5:01.21. Another Sophomore
Danielle Johnston finished fifth overall in the 1500 meters with a time of 5:05.21.
In the 100 meters, junior
Heavan Roberts placed first overall after crossing the line in 11.87 seconds. Roberts also posted a third-place finish in the 200 meters hitting a conference standard with a time of 24.19.
Freshman
Lakeiya Sanders competed in two events placing fourth in both, In the 200-meter she posted a speed of 24.54 seconds and in the 400-meter she crossed the line at the 59.49 mark to achieve a conference standard mark.
Lastly, Harvey, Slate, Roberts, and Sanders posted a time of 46.56 in the 4x100 meter relay to capture first place to start the meet off.
The Trojans are scheduled to return to action April 2-3 at the VertKlasse Meeting, hosted by High Point University.
