Four Trojans garner CSC Academic All-District

MOUNT OLIVE (May 21) – The University of Mount Olive men's tennis program showcased four individuals on the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team, as senior Guilherme Zotin de Oliveira, sophomore Bram Poel, sophomore Niklas Gruenefeldt, and sophomore Kabir Chhabria each earned the laurel.

The 2024 Academic All-District® Men's Tennis Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes men's tennis honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, and NAIA.

For a consecutive year, de Oliveira claimed the academic honor from CSC following a stellar senior campaign. He earned All-Conference Carolinas First-Team honor for a second-straight year after posting a 13-4 record at No. 1 singles. He finished the season with seven consecutive victories and boasted a 6-1 mark in conference action. In the doubles play, de Oliveira and teammate Kristoffer Dalbak produced a 12-8 mark in the first position while going 5-3 in league action. de Oliveira recently graduated with a degree in accounting while maintaining a 3.72 grade-point-average (GPA).

Poel collected third-team all-league honors from the Conference Carolinas after an outstanding sophomore season. He completed the 2024 season with a 15-5 overall record in singles play while playing the majority of his matches in the fourth slot. Poel held an impressive 14-7 mark in doubles competition alongside teammate Lenn Hoffmann while posting a 6-1 record in conference action. He is currently majoring in business management while holding a perfect 4.00 GPA.

A native of Angern an der March, Austria, Gruenefeldt delivered a 9-9 record in singles play while competing in the second spot in the lineup throughout the year. Additionally, he produced an 11-7 mark behind a 5-2 record in doubles action while playing with teammate Adam Ibrahim in the second and third positions. Gruenefeldt boasts a 3.98 GPA and is pursuing a bachelor's degree in business management.

Chhabria played primarily at No. 5 singles for the Trojans and registered a 13-6 record with a 5-1 mark in Conference Carolinas action. He helped the squad deliver a .695 winning percentage (82-36 record) in singles, as the team finished the 2024 season with a 17-6 mark. Chhabria holds a 3.87 GPA while majoring in finance.

To qualify for the academic all-district honors, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore academically and in athletic eligibility, maintain a cumulative 3.50 GPA or higher, and have played at least 70 percent of the team's matches. Additionally, each institution is capped at four nominees in the sport of men's tennis.

Note, starting in the 2023-24 academic year advancement from Academic All-District submission to the Academic All-America ballot will be determined by subcommittees of the CSC Academic All-America program (formerly CoSIDA).
