MOUNT OLIVE (July 1) – The University of Mount Olive men's tennis program showcased four individuals on the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team, as junior
Philip Peter Carstensen, sophomore
Kristoffer Dalbak, junior
Niklas Gruenefeldt, and junior
Bram Poel each earned the laurel.
To qualify for CSC Academic All-District honors, student-athletes must be at least a sophomore academically and athletically, maintain a cumulative 3.50 grade-point average (GPA), and have played in 70 percent of an institution's days of competition. Additionally, each institution is capped at four nominees in the sport of men's tennis.
A native of Vaerloese, Denmark, Carstensen in his debut season with the program posted a 7-8 overall record in the singles competition while registering a 4-4 mark in league play. He held a 9-6 record in doubles competition alongside Dalbak and played primarily in the first position. The duo won seven of their final 10 matches and delivered a 5-3 record in Conference Carolinas action. Carstensen holds a 3.57 GPA while pursuing a bachelor's degree in finance.
Dalbak garnered all-conference honors for a second-straight year while earning first-team status for the first time in his career. In the first slot, he finished the 2024-25 campaign with a 9-10 singles record and went 6-3 overall in league action. Dalbak played with Carstensen in doubles play and registered a 9-6 mark and a 5-3 record in conference while competing primarily in the first position. He is currently majoring in finance and boasts an impressive 4.00 GPA.
For a consecutive year, Gruenefeldt receives CSC All-District honors after competing in the second slot in singles and doubles play this year. He produced an 8-8 overall record in singles competition with a 4-5 mark in Conference Carolinas action. Gruenefeldt, alongside Poel, posted an impressive 11-5 record in doubles while going 7-2 in league play. He holds a 3.98 GPA while majoring in business management.
Poel collects the CSC All-District accolade for a consecutive year following All-Conference Carolinas Second-Team honors. Additionally, he was the recipient of the Conference Carolinas Elite 23 Award after holding the highest GPA at the championship site. Poel delivered a team-best record of 13-4 in singles action while going 8-1 in conference play. Alongside Gruenefeldt, the tandem recorded an 11-5 record in doubles competition. Poel maintains a 4.00 GPA while pursuing a degree in business management.
Note, starting in the 2023-24 academic year, advancement from Academic All-District submission to the Academic All-America ballot will be determined by subcommittees of the CSC Academic All-America program (formerly CoSIDA).
