MOUNT OLIVE/HICKORY, N.C. (May 11) – The University of Mount Olive women's track & field program set two new Conference Carolinas records, broke three UMO records, and hit five NCAA provisional marks while competing at the Mount Olive Final Qualifier and LR Last Chance meet on Saturday.
Senior Danielle Trimbur broke her own Conference Carolinas and school record in the javelin following an outstanding toss of 47.77 meters on her final attempt to earn the individual title. The mark reached the NCAA standard and currently ranks sixth in NCAA Division II. Her impressive performance on Saturday should lead to a selection to the NCAA Championships in Emporia, Kansas on May 23-25. Additionally, in the event, freshman MacKenna Gallon posted a season-best mark of 36.03 meters to place third overall.
The 4x100 meter relay team of sophomore Chianel Asoburuenwu, sophomore Channie Jefferson, junior Lasira Nicholson, and freshman Heavan Roberts competed at Lenoir-Rhyne on Saturday. The squad delivered a new Conference Carolinas and school record in the event after registering a time of 45.50 seconds to place first overall, which eclipsed the NCAA provisional standard. The time set today breaks the previous mark held by UMO by nearly two-hundredths of a second and is tied for 14th in the country.
Asoburuenwu also competed in the 100 meters while in Hickory with the relay teams. She hit the NCAA provisional standard twice and broke the school record in the event. In the prelims, she crossed the line in 11.67 seconds before setting a new UMO record in the finals with a time of 11.55 seconds to claim first place. Her time currently sits 19th in NCAA Division II.
The 4x400 relay team of Asoburenwu, senior Vinesha Briggs, senior Natalyah Wilson, and Jefferson produced a third-place finish with a time of 3:48.47, which hit the NCAA mark.
Back at Mount Olive, the Trojans featured four competitors in the hammer throw in the final home meet of the season. Senior Adrienne Crawford hit the NCAA standard with a distance of 54.18 meters to place third overall. Freshman Elin Rydqvist finished fourth overall with a toss of 52.45 meters while sophomore Kenisha Barnes placed eighth overall with a mark of 50.35 meters. Senior Rolanda Desir-Moreau produced a ninth-place finish following a personal-best mark of 48.98 meters.
Junior Karla Hormazabal recorded a second-place finish while competing in the triple jump with a mark of 11.55 meters.
Crawford placed third overall in the discus on Saturday with a toss of 41.08 meters.
