MOUNT OLIVE (May 10) – The University of Mount Olive women's track & field team hit a trio of NCAA Provisional marks on Friday while competing at the Mount Olive First Chance meet held at the Ray McDonald Sr. Sports Complex.
The 4x100 relay team of sophomore Channie Jefferson, sophomore Chianel Asoburuenwu, senior Vinesha Briggs, and junior Lasira Nicholson established an NCAA mark and new season-best time of 45.86 seconds to place first while setting the second-fastest mark in the region.
In the hammer throw, junior Adrienne Crawford reached the NCAA standard and finished second overall with a toss of 52.59 meters on her fifth attempt. Freshman Elin Rydqvist placed fourth overall with a mark of 51.56 meters and sophomore Kenisha Barnes placed fifth with a distance of 51.44 meters. Senior Rolanda Desir-Moreau produced a career-best mark of 47.69 meters to finish eighth overall.
Asoburuenwu set a pair of NCAA provisional marks while competing in the 100-meter dash on Friday. In the prelims, she crossed the line in 11.67 seconds before delivering a time of 11.63 seconds to capture first place in the event. Asoburuenwu holds the 26th best time in the country in the 100 meters.
In the javelin, senior Danielle Trimbur claimed the individual crown with a toss of 40.88 meters while freshman MacKenna Gallon produced a season-best mark of 35.02 meters to place third.
Junior Karla Hormazabal earned the individual title in the triple jump following a leap of 11.69 meters.
Crawford posted a first-place finish in the discus after registering a distance of 42.86 meters.
In the 800 meters, junior Celine Fleurilus collected first place with a time of 2:24.05 while fellow junior Caroline Allred placed second overall with a mark of 3:05.15.
Mount Olive returns to Ray McDonald Sr. Sports Complex, tomorrow, Saturday, May 11, for the Mount Olive Final Qualifier, starting at 11 a.m.
