Dalbak named Freshman of the Year; Trio earn all-conference honors

GREENVILLE, S.C. (April 30) – The University of Mount Olive men's tennis program featured the Conference Carolinas Freshman of the Year and a trio of players earned all-conference honors, as the league office announced the postseason accolades last week.

Freshman Kristoffer Dalbak was named the Conference Carolinas Freshman of the Year while also being voted second-team all-conference. Senior Guilherme Zotin de Oliveira was selected to the All-Conference Carolinas First-Team and sophomore Bram Poel garnered third-team all-conference honors. Dalbak became just the third Freshman of the Year from Mount Olive, the first since 2012.

A native of Oslo, Norway, Dalbak produced a breakout campaign in his first collegiate season after posting an impressive 16-2 overall record in singles play while primarily competing in the third position. He currently holds an 11-match winning streak while boasting the second-best winning percentage in the league during the regular season. Dalbak was one of three players in the league to post a perfect 8-0 record in conference play. In doubles action, Dalbak alongside de Oliveira delivered a 12-7 mark at the first position while going 5-3 in Conference Carolinas matches.

For the third time in his career, de Oliveira was named to the all-conference teams while receiving first-team status for a consecutive season. Competing at the No. 1 singles, he recorded a 13-4 mark while posting a 6-1 record in league action. de Oliveira delivered a league-best winning percentage in the first slot and currently holds a seven-match winning streak. In doubles, the duo of de Oliveira and Dalbak produced a 12-7 record in their first year playing together while going 5-3 in league action.

Poel received all-conference honors for the first time in his career following a breakout sophomore campaign. He posted a 15-4 record in singles while playing primarily in the fourth position with a 6-2 mark in league action. Poel ranked fourth in the Conference Carolinas in singles play winning percentage and produced the most wins at the fourth slot in the league. In doubles play, he held a 14-6 mark while playing alongside freshman Lenn Hoffmann after competing in the second and third positions. Poel was also recognized as the Conference Carolinas Elite 23 Award winner after boasting the top GPA at the championship site.
