VIRGINIA BEACH (Feb. 11) – In the final tune-up ahead of the league championship, the University of Mount Olive women's track & field program competed at the DIII Pre-National Invitational hosted by Norfolk State.
Junior
Karla Hormazabal produced a second-place finish in the triple jump with a distance of 11.76 meters (38-7.00 feet) and will enter the Conference Carolinas Championship with the second-best mark in the event. She also placed fourth overall in the long jump with a personal-best mark of 5.41 meters (17-9.00 feet), which ranks eighth all-time at Mount Olive.
In the weight throw, junior
Adrienne Crawford delivered a second-place finish with a distance of 16.05 meters (52-8.00 feet) and holds the top mark in the conference entering the indoor championships. Senior
Rolanda Desir-Moreau placed third overall following a personal record of 15.95 meters (52-4.00 feet), which is the second-best mark in the league this season. Freshman
Elin Rydqvist finished seventh in the event with a season-best mark of 14.78 meters (48-6.00 feet), which sits ninth all-time at UMO. Sophomore
Ashley Lindsey hit the league qualifying mark with a toss of 13.35 meters (43-9.75 feet). She also produced a fifth-place finish in the shot put after posting a distance of 11.66 meters (38-3.25 feet).
Additionally, in the long jump, junior
Jamesha Howell registered a season-best mark of 5.40 meters (17-8.75 feet) to place fifth overall.
In the 60-meter dash, freshman
Kiara Campbell finished fifth overall after crossing the line with a time of 7.73 seconds, which is the third-best time in the Conference Carolinas this season. Fellow freshman
Heavan Roberts posted a season-best time of 7.83 seconds to place 10th while junior
Lasira Nicholson also recorded a personal-best time of 7.85 while in Virginia.
Junior
Kiwanna Pemberton registered a personal-best time of 9.18 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles before placing seventh overall in the finals with a time of 9.23 seconds. She moves to fifth all-time at UMO in the event and holds the fourth-best time in the league.
The Trojans return to action next weekend on Feb. 18-19 at the Conference Carolinas Championships in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, at the JDL Fast Track.
