No. 10 Mount Olive tops Belmont Abbey, 6-1

MOUNT OLIVE (Oct. 2) – Sophomore Rosie Migounoff delivered the fourth hat-trick in program history, as the No. 10 ranked University of Mount Olive field hockey program secured a 6-1 victory over Belmont Abbey on Wednesday afternoon in South Atlantic Conference (SAC) action.

With the win, the Trojans improve to 6-3 this season with a 5-2 mark in conference action. Mount Olive has won the last six meetings in the series against Belmont Abbey, including four victories at Ray McDonald Sr. Sports Complex. Meanwhile, the Crusaders drop to 0-8 overall behind a 0-6 mark in league play.

Mount Olive registered the first goal of the contest at the 8:19 mark of the first quarter off a penalty corner with Migounoff netting the goal from an assist by senior Jule Schuurman, 1-0. The Trojans finished the initial 15 minutes of the game with a 5-0 lead in shots while recording four penalty corners. In the second quarter, Migounoff scored her second goal at the 20:31 mark with Schuurman collecting another assist, 2-0. The Crusaders cut into the deficit in the final seconds of the quarter off a goal by Casey Etter to trail by a 2-1 margin.

In the opening seconds of the third quarter, Migounoff completed the hat trick with an assist awarded to sophomore Jemimah Kriechelberg to regain the two-goal advantage, 3-1. The Crusaders responded with two shots on goal and a pair of penalty corners but were unable to close the gap. At the 41:35 mark, the Trojans stretched the lead to 4-1 with a goal by freshman Nakai Mujaranji off an assist by sophomore Femke van Marle. Mount Olive managed to net two additional goals in the final quarter, as Kriechelberg registered a goal with an assist by senior Annefleur Moerkerken, while van Marle scored off an assist by Mujaranji, 6-1.

Senior Alanna Barrett earned the win as goalkeeper following three saves in 54-plus minutes of play.

Mount Olive out-shot Belmont Abbey by a 23-5 margin while boasting a 16-5 lead in penalty corners.

The Trojans will be idle for over a week before returning to conference play on Saturday, Oct. 12, to face Converse on the road at noon.
