LEXINGTON, Va. (Jan. 27) – Junior
Karla Hormazabal became the new UMO record holder in the indoor triple jump, as the University of Mount Olive women's track & field program concluded the final day of competition at the VMI Invitational on Saturday.
Hormazabal eclipsed the school record and set an NCAA Standard in the triple jump with a distance of 11.85 meters (38-10.50 feet) on her final attempt to place second overall in the event. She boasts the second-best mark in the Conference Carolinas following this weekend.
Sophomore
Chianel Asoburuenwu posted a pair of runner-up finishes while competing in the 60-meter dash and the 200 meters. She placed second overall in the 60m with a time of 7.61 seconds in the finals after setting an NCAA mark the previous day at VMI. Later in the day, Asoburuenwu delivered a personal-best time of 25.01 seconds to finish second in the 200m, which is the second-best time in Mount Olive history.
In the shot put, junior
Adrienne Crawford registered a season-best distance of 11.95 meters (39-2.50 feet) to place fourth overall. She now holds the third-best mark in the Conference Carolinas this season. Sophomore
Ashley Lindsey posted a fifth-place finish in the event with a season-best toss of 11.72 meters.
The 4x400 relay team of senior

Natalyah Wilson, freshman
Heavan Roberts, and sophomore
Channie Jefferson delivered a fourth-place finish and the fastest mark in the Southeast Region after crossing the line with a time of 3:56.67.
Roberts also reached the league qualifying standard in the 200 meters with a time of 25.64 seconds, which is the sixth-best mark in UMO history.
Additionally, in the triple jump, senior
Kiana Hatchett produced a season-best distance of 10.90 meters (35-9.25 feet).
In the 400 meters, Briggs recorded a time of 58.84 seconds to set a season-best mark and move to fifth all-time in Mount Olive history.
Jefferson hit the league qualifying mark in the event after crossing the line with a time of 59.49 seconds. Wilson also competed in the 400 meters and posted a time of 59.58 seconds, which is the seventh-best all-time mark for the program.
The Trojans will return to action on Feb. 2-3 in Lynchburg, Virginia, to compete at the Liberty Open.
