LEXINGTON, Va. (Jan. 26) – Sophomore
Chianel Asoburuenwu hit an NCAA mark in the 60-meter dash for a consecutive week, as the Trojans competed on the opening day of the VMI Invitational on Friday.
Asoburuenwu delivered a blistering pace of 7.57 seconds in the 60-meter dash to place second overall in the semifinals of the event. She advanced to the finals of the 60m, which is scheduled for tomorrow at 12:30 p.m. Asoburuenwu currently holds the fastest time in the Conference Carolinas entering the weekend while ranking third in the Southeast Region.
In the weight throw, junior
Adrienne Crawford registered a third-place finish and improved her league qualifying standard with a personal-best mark of 16.30 meters (53-5.75 feet). She holds the top distance in the Southeast Region entering this weekend of competition. Sophomore
Kenisha Barnes finished seventh overall with a personal record of 15.02 meters (49-3.50 feet), while freshman
Elin Rydqvist placed eighth with a season-best toss of 14.21 meters (46-7.50 feet).
Sophomore
Channie Jefferson produced a fourth-place finish in the long jump with a distance of 5.65 meters (18-6.50 meters), which was just three centimeters short of the NCAA standard in the event. She currently holds the top mark in the Conference Carolinas and a top-three performance in the Southeast Region. Junior
Karla Hormazabal improved her conference qualifying mark in the event with a personal-best distance of 5.31 meters (17-5.25 feet).
Sophomore
Trinity Frayer finished sixth overall in the pole vault after clearing 3.11 meters (10-2.50 feet).
Junior
Kiwanna Pemberton posted a personal record in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.43 seconds, which is the eighth-best time in program history.
Mount Olive continues to compete at the VMI Invitational tomorrow, Saturday, Jan. 27, with events scheduled to start at 9 a.m.
