Mount Olive wins second straight conference match against Coker, 7-1

Congleton and Migounoff each score two goals; Trojans on a three-game winning streak

HARTSVILLE, S.C. (Sept. 8) – In a South Atlantic Conference (SAC) matchup, Mount Olive beat Coker by a 7-1 margin on Friday afternoon. 
 
With the win, the University of Mount Olive field hockey team improves to 3-1 overall and 2-0 in league play. Meanwhile, Coker falls to 0-2 overall with an identical record in conference action. 
 
Both teams remained scoreless in the first quarter of the match. At the 16:42 mark, freshman Jemimah Kriechelberg found freshman Rosie Migounoff to score the first goal of the contest, 1-0. After being awarded a penalty corner, junior Annefleur Moerkerken found sophomore Jule Schuurman and hit the back of the cage to extend the advantage, 2-0. Closing the first half of the match, UMO held a two-goal lead. 
 
At the start of the second half, Mount Olive attacked the Coker circle. At the 34:19 mark, sophomore Nikki Bos assisted senior Avery Congleton to score her first goal of the match, 3-0. Kriechelberg saw another goal opportunity with a pass by senior Alisia Lovejoy and put the ball past the keeper at the 42:33 mark, 4-0. Closing the third quarter, the Trojans saw another scoring opportunity. Bos passed a perfect ball to Congleton for her second goal of the day, 5-0. Starting the fourth quarter, Coker capitalized on a one-on-one situation and scored its first goal of the match, 5-1. At the 48-minute mark, junior Jinte Steenbeeke put one over the baseline to extend the lead by five, 6-1. Scoring the last goal of the game, Kriechelberg found Migounoff again to seal the win, 7-1. 
 
Senior goalkeeper Alanna Barrett earned the win by playing 45 minutes and collecting a save. Freshman Mia Neckritz also saw time in the cage with 15 minutes played. 
 
Mount Olive led the game with a 34-9 shot advantage and a 13-4 edge on penalty corners. 
 
The Trojans face Wingate in conference action on Wednesday, Sept. 13 at 4:00 p.m. at the Ray McDonald Sr. Sports Complex.
