GREENWOOD, S.C. (Sept. 30) – In a one goal match, UMO earned a 1-0 victory over the Bearcats in South Atlantic Conference (SAC) action on Saturday afternoon.
With the win, the University of Mount Olive field hockey team improves to 9-1 overall and 8-0 in the SAC. This win marks the 21st consecutive conference win. Meanwhile, Lander falls to 5-2 overall and in conference play.
In the first half of the match, both UMO and LU saw eight shots in the first 30 minutes of the contest. With two penalty corner opportunities for the Trojans, the match remained scoreless. At the start of the second half, UMO kept attacking the Lander circle. At the 39:52 mark of the match, the Trojans scored with a lone goal by freshman
Femke van Marle, 1-0. With a tremendous effort by the Mount Olive defense, UMO sealed the 1-0 win over Lander.
Senior goalkeeper
Alanna Barrett matched a career-high with seven saves on eight shots on goal in a full 60 minutes of play.
The Trojans held a 16-15 edge in shots and both teams earned four penalty corners opportunities.
Mount Olive host the reigning conference champions, Converse University on Oct. 17 at 1:00 p.m. at the Ray McDonald Sr. Sports Complex.
