GREENVILLE, S.C. (June 8) – University of Mount Olive senior
Mary Brigid Keck was tabbed the women's track & field Spring Scholar-Athlete of the Year Presented by Hudl on Thursday morning, as announced by the league office.
The Scholar-Athlete awards Presented by Hudl are awarded annually to one individual in each Conference Carolinas sponsored sport. The Scholar-Athlete of the Year winners are chosen by the Conference Carolinas Student-Athlete Affairs and Awards Committee. To be considered, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade-point average (GPA) of 3.25 or higher. In addition, the nominees for the award must have been named all-conference in their sport and also chosen academic all-conference.
Keck becomes the fifth UMO women's track & field student-athlete to garner the award, joining
Candise Lockett, Taylor Moncrief (2),
Jaiden Moody, and Emily Shaw. Mount Olive has earned the accolade five-straight years and collected the honor more than any other program in the Conference Carolinas.
A native of Newark, Ohio, Keck was a national qualifier in the hammer throw for a consecutive year and shattered the conference and school record with a distance of 58.08 meters in late March. As a member of the Conference Carolinas Championship Team, she claimed the individual title in the hammer throw and shot put, while finishing runner-up in the discus throw, which earned her Field Athlete of the Year for a second-straight year. Keck also garnered USTFCCCA All-Region honors in the hammer throw and discus after posting a top-five mark in the Southeast Region during the outdoor campaign.
Keck maintains a 3.92 grade-point-average (GPA) while completing her master's degree in business administration. Additionally, she was selected to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team.
