GREENVILLE, S.C. (March 29) – Following a 3-0 record in singles and doubles play last week, University of Mount Olive junior
Guilherme Zotin de Oliveira was chosen as the Conference Carolinas Athlete of the Week by the league office on Wednesday afternoon.
A junior from Rio Claro in Brazil, de Oliveira produced a remarkable 3-0 mark in both singles and doubles action in three Mount Olive conference wins. Playing in the No. 1 singles spot, de Oliveira earned a 6-1, 6-0 win over Anesu Kwirirai of Chowan last Tuesday. Over the past weekend, he delivered a thrilling 4-6, 6-3, 6-1 comeback victory against Merlin Bellet of Converse before knocking off Xaveam Van Wijk of Belmont Abbey by a score of 5-7, 6-3, 7-6 (8-6).

Daniel Hammond improved to 10-3. The duo posted a 6-2 win over Santino Jose Sormani and Nikola Cvetanovic of Chowan last Tuesday before defeating Bellet and Enzo Marcheschi of Converse by a 7-6 (7-3) margin. To finish the weekend, de Oliveira and Hammond recorded a 6-4 victory over Van Wijk and Alex Turner of Belmont Abbey.
This season, de Oliveira boasts a 5-6 record in the No. 1 position while winning his last three matches. In doubles, he and Hammond have won nine of their last 10 matches and hold a 3-1 mark in league play.
Mount Olive returns to action for a non-conference match against North Carolina Wesleyan on Saturday, April 1, at 2:00 p.m. at John Neal Walker Tennis Center.
