Trojans Earn 5-2 Road Victory Over Conference Foe Francis Marion

FLORENCE, S.C. — The University of Mount Olive men's tennis team secured a strong 5-2 conference victory over Francis Marion on Wednesday afternoon at the Kassab Courts, improving to 3-4 overall and 2-0 in league play.

Mount Olive set the tone early by claiming the doubles point with wins on courts one and three. The duo of Kristoffer Dalbak and Bram Poel earned a 6-4 victory at No. 1, while Philip Carstensen and Luke Oosthuizen delivered a decisive 6-2 win at No. 3 to give the Trojans a 1-0 advantage heading into singles play.

In singles action, Mount Olive continued its momentum by capturing four of the six matches. Bram Poel extended the Trojans' lead with a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 2, while Niklas Gruenefeldt battled through a tight second set to secure a 6-1, 7-6 (7-2) victory at No. 3.

Carstensen added another point with a consistent 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 5 before Hiroma Nishikata clinched the match at No. 6. After dropping the first set, Nishikata rallied for a 4-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-8) victory in a tightly contested super tiebreak.

Francis Marion picked up wins at No. 1 and No. 4 singles, but the Trojans' depth proved to be the difference in the conference matchup.

Mount Olive will look to carry its momentum forward as it continues conference play in the coming days when they host Young Harris Mountain Lions on Saturday at 2 p.m.
