WINSTON-SALEM (Dec. 3) – Sophomore
Trinity Frayer broke her all-time school record on Saturday in the pole vault, as the University of Mount Olive women's track & field team started the 2023-24 indoor season at the Visit Winston-Salem Kick-off.
Frayer set the new program record and hit the league standard with a seventh-place finish after clearing 3.20 meters (10-6.0 feet) in the season-opening meet. Last season, she earned All-Conference Carolinas Second-Team honors with a runner-up finish at the Conference Carolinas Championship.
Junior
Karla Hormazabal established a pair of conference qualifying marks while competing on Saturday. She claimed the event win with a distance of 11.49 meters (37-8.50 feet) in the triple jump, which is the best mark in the Southeast Region this year. Kiana Hatchett and sophomore
Keza Green each hit a conference mark in the triple jump. Hatchett posted a distance of 10.87 meters (35-8.0 feet) while Green reached a mark of 10.57 meters (34-8.25 meters) in the event.
Junior
Celine Fleurilus delivered a fourth-place finish in the 800-meter run and qualified for the league championship after crossing the line with a time of 2:24.11, which was the fifth-fastest in Mount Olive history.

Adrienne Crawford and freshman
Elin Rydqvist each hit the Conference Carolinas standard in the opening meet. Crawford registered a mark of 13.95 meters (45-9.25 feet) while Rydqvist reached a distance of 13.86 meters (45-5.75 feet) on Saturday. Additionally, Crawford set a qualifying mark in the shot put following a toss of 10.95 meters on her final attempt. Freshman
Destiny Faison also hit the conference standard and the second-best distance in the region with a mark of 12.05 meters (39-6.50) in her first appearance with Mount Olive.
Seniors
Vinesha Briggs and
Natalyah Wilson set the league qualifying mark in the 400 meters while competing in Winston-Salem. Wilson established a time of 1:00.06 to finish seventh while Briggs crossed the line at 1:00.47 to place ninth overall.
In the 60-meter dash, the Trojans featured three student-athletes that hit the Conference Carolinas standard. Sophomore
Chianel Asoburuenwu led the UMO with a time of 7.82 seconds while junior
Jamesha Howell and freshman
Heavan Roberts each crossed the line with a time of 7.88 seconds. Additionally, Howell set a league mark in the long jump with a distance of 5.13 meters (16-1.0 feet).
Junior
Kiwanna Pemberton qualified for the league championship in the 60-meter hurdles after posting a time of 9.91 seconds.
Mount Olive returns to action on Sunday, Dec. 3, when it competes at the JDL Early Bird Invitational in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
