MOUNT OLIVE, North Carolina. – The University of Mount Olive men's and women's soccer teams each had a Trojan selected to the United Soccer Coaches Southeast All-Region teams for 2021. Shaunalee Govia earned second-team honors, while Alfie Pope earned third-team honors. For Pope this was his first selection of his career and for Govia, it was her second. Govia and Pope earlier earned second-team all-region honors from the Division II Conference Commissioners Association.

Pope joined 13 other members on the all-region second-team. The senior earned his first all-region honor and first Conference Carolinas Offensive Player of the Year this season. Pope led all in Conference Carolinas with 11 goals and 26 points in conference play. Pope closed out the regular-season overall with 34 points on 14 goals and six assists.

Pope is the first men's soccer player to earn offensive player of the year accolades since the award was instituted in 2012. He was also ranked nationally in several statistical categories: 7th in Game-winning goals (7), 12th in Goals per Game (0.78), 13th in Points per Game (1.89), 10th in Total Goals (14), 13th in Total Points (34). He also earned a United Soccer Coaches National DII Offensive Player of the Week honor earlier in the season.

Govia joined 13 other members on the all-region second-team. The senior collected her third consecutive Conference Carolinas Defensive Player of the Year honor (2019, Spring 2021, Fall 2021) and is the first since the implementation of the award in 2012 to win the honor more than once.

The leader on the backline for the Trojans, Govia led a defense that allowed nine goals in 16 games, a .56 average per contest. In addition, she finished second in the conference with seven assists on the season. She earned D2CCA First-Team All-Region in 2019, the last time the Trojans made the NCAA Tournament.
