Mount Olive breaks records at Camel City Relays

Mount Olive turned in a statement performance at the Camel City Relays, stacking podium finishes, school records, and all-time marks across both the men's and women's squads.

On the men's side, Leland Smith blazed to a 6.82 in the 60 meters, finishing fourth while moving to third all-time in program history. Jason Hart followed with a season-best 21.63 in the 200 for seventh, and Kobe Jones soared 6.90 meters in the long jump to qualify and place fifth.

The throws group powered the Trojans all day, led by Antoine King's 18.13-meter season best in the weight throw — good for second place and third all-time. Chris Harris (16.19), Adam Turner (15.97), and Matt Heywood (15.67) added a string of top-eight finishes to round out a dominant showing. On the track, Titus Tanui clocked a season-best 1:57.47 in the 800, while Leo Powell (4:22.44) and Artem Meltisaev (4:22.84) both qualified in the mile. Kavon Poindexter cleared 1.90 meters for fourth in the high jump, and Ryan Wilson-McCoy leapt 14.68 in the triple jump to take third.

The women delivered fireworks of their own. Futoria broke the school record in the 60 with a 7.38 to finish second, then added a seventh-place run in the 200. Serenity Harvey was strong in the sprints with a fifth-place 24.60 and a 56.58 season-best in the 400 that ranks second all-time. Essence Slate rewrote the record book with a 55.76 in the 400, setting both a school and conference record.

Mount Olive's 4x400 relay of Slate, Heavan Roberts, Macie Inman, and Harvey capped the meet with a 3:53.44 — a conference-leading, season-best performance. Keza Green added a big mark in the triple jump, placing second with an 11.95 that ranks third all-time, while multiple Trojans posted season bests in the middle distance and field events.

The Trojans continue February 13th-14th at the DII Pre-National Championships in Norfolk, Virginia.
