RACE NOTABLES

  • The men's javelin was the first event to get underway for Mount Olive in the national championship on the final day, but a technical error prevented the Trojan from competing and a mark was not made.
  • The men's 4x100m relay team ran a nearly identical time in the finals as they did in the prelims clocking in .26 slower than Friday's time.
  • Middlebrooks, Bulik, Carr, and Jenkins, however, finished the race with a third-place time and first-team All-American honors to claim for the first AA of the day.
  • The women's 5000m was the next event for UMO to try and claim an AA and Hanle's second of the championship.
  • Hanle started off in the top-five and made her way to the lead of the pack after the 2600m mark and held that position until falling after the 3400m mark.
  • She fell to as low as fourth before rebounding to push for third in the final 400m and took third for her second first-team All-American.
  • Tai Smith came out of the gates strong in the first 1000m during the men's 5000m but over the next 1200m, he faded quickly dropping to 18th.
  • He was unable to recover and in the final 400m fell two more spots and finished 20th well outside the needed place for AA status.
  • The 4x400m relay team shaved nearly three seconds off their prelims time and took third in the 4x400m men's relay finals and grabbed the final All-American on the championship.
  • Arne Leppelsack, Johnny Middlebrooks, Richard Fisher, Tedric Shannon, and Leah Hanle became the only Trojan this season to repeat as All-Americans from the indoor and outdoor seasons.

UP NEXT

  • Mount Olive's season comes to a close with the conclusion of the spring outdoor championship.
