MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. - The University of Mount Olive Women's Lacrosse team placed seven on the 2019 All-Conference Carolinas teams, it was announced at Thursday's Conference Carolinas Lacrosse Tournament in Mount Olive, N.C. Meaghan Michaud was named the Freshman of the Year while Sadie Michael was named Defensive Player of the Year for the second consecutive year.
Jackie Kaderabek and Sadie Michael grabbed a spot on the first team, while Meaghan Michaud, Jordan Shughrue, Kiara Burke, and Karlie Abbott found themselves on the second team and Tiffany Lee landed on the third team.
Michaud, a freshman attack from Derry, N.H., was named the Freshman of the Year after helping the Trojans advance to the Conference Carolinas semifinals. Michaud has played in all 17 contests and started 10 of them on attack for Mount Olive. She is second on the team in goals and points with 40 and 54 respectively. Of her 89 total shots, 71 have come on goal for a 79.8 SOG %. She has assisted on 14 goals and went 5-14 on free position attempts. In addition to her other stats, Michaud has 18 ground balls, three draw controls, and four caused turnovers.
Michael has started every game for the Trojans this season as a senior defensive captain. She leads the Trojans and is second in the conference in caused turnovers (46) and ground balls (63). She has helped the Trojan defense keep opponents to 134 goals while the UMO offense has scored 274. Michael's performance on defense has also helped the Trojans collect 432 ground balls and 235 caused turnovers, with their ground ball numbers putting UMO at the top of the conference.
The second-seeded Trojans continue action in the 2019 Conference Carolinas Women's Lacrosse Championship Tournament on Thursday against the No. 3 seed Belmont Abbey at 3 p.m.
