Men's Tennis Faces Bulldogs In Conference Carolinas Quarterfinals

MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. - The No. 2 seeded Trojans of the University of Mount Olive are set to take on the No. 7 seeded Bulldogs of Barton College on Friday, April 20, in the quarterfinal match of the 2018 Conference Carolinas Men's Tennis Championship tournament in Sumter, S.C.

Mount Olive

  • The Trojans finished the regular season 13-6 overall and 8-2 in conference action.
  • Armando Ferreira, a freshman from Minacu, Brazil, lead the Trojans as the No. 1 singles player with a 14-4 overall record and a 9-1 conference mark.
  • His doubles partner, Jack Middleton, tallied a 10-8 record for the season playing most of the season in the No. 4 singles position. He saw action at the No. 2 and No. 3 position going 3-2 when playing up.
  • Martin Moser finished the regular season with the second-best singles record at 13-2 overall and 8-1 against conference competitors. Moser spent most of the season as the No. 2 singles player.
  • Pablo Safont Ferrer has tallied a 10-6 singles record throughout the season playing most of his matches at the No. 5 position.
  • Jose Cortijos Planas has amassed a 9-5 singles record spending a majority of the season at the No. 3 spot. He collected an 8-2 record against conference opponents helping the Trojans to an 8-2 conference record.
  • The duo of Ferreira and Middleton has been a nearly unstoppable force on the court having recorded a 17-2 overall mark on the season as the No. 1 doubles pair. 
  • Safont Ferrer and Juan Arbelaez have collected an 11-7 doubles record playing as the No. 3 duo for the Trojans most of the season. The two went 6-4 against conference foes.
  • Moser and Cortijos Planas wrap up the Trojans lineup as the No. 2 doubles pair. The pair have gone 9-4 on the season and 6-3 against conference competition. 

Barton

  • Barton finished the regular season 6-12 overall and 4-6 in conference action.
  • The Bulldogs strongest players this season in singles action have been their No. 6 and No. 3 players who have collected an 11-4 and 11-5 record respectively.

Series History

  • The Trojans defeated the Bulldogs early this season 8-1 at the John Neal Walker Tennis Courts. 
  • The only point Mount Olive gave up was the No. 3 doubles point as Safont Ferrer and Arbelaez fell 8-4.
