Box Score Nationally fifth-ranked Mount Olive rallied for 13 runs in the last three innings, including a Braden Reitano grand slam and Matt Dillon won his sixth game without a loss as the Trojans extended their winning streak to 18 with a 15-7 Conference Carolinas baseball win at Limestone Friday afternoon.
The Trojans (30-6 Overall, 16-2 Conference Carolinas) found themselves in an early hole. Jake Rierson singled down the left field line with one out, took second on a wild pitch, then Chad Balderman reached on a throwing error. Josh Lyon then slugged his 13th home run of the season over the right field wall for a 3-0 Limestone lead.
Saint pitcher Josh White cruised through the first three innings before Mount Olive started to do some damage. In the fourth, the Trojans scored a run with two outs on a walk to Jacob Rogers, a single by Geno Escalante to extend his hitting streak to 28 games and a throwing error on a grounder by Nick Gaeta.
An inning later, Gaeta's sacrifice fly scored Will Bynum to cut the lead to 3-2.
Mount Olive pulled ahead in the top of the seventh. Cameron Sherrer led off with a single and moved up to second on a bunt by Bynum. After Mike Mercurio walked, Antonio Callaway singled to center to tie the game, 3-3. Rogers walked to lead the bases, then Bradon Reitano walked to force in the go-ahead run. Gaeta brought home Rogers and Callaway to stretch the lead to 6-3.
With Dillon settling in after a rough first, the Trojans were able to pull away. Dillon allowed just three hits after the first inning, walking three and striking out seven.
Mount Olive added four more in the eighth. Sherrer walked and scored on a double by Mercurio. After a Callaway double, Rogers was intentionally walked and Escalante singled to left to load the bases for Reitano. Reitano's blast to left-center extended the lead to 12-3.
Dillon left after giving up a single and walk in the third. The Saints turned the opportunity into a four-run rally. But Mount Olive answered with three in the ninth on RBI-singles by Callaway and Bryan Dunlavey and a throwing error by the Saints.
Chris Hinton tossed a scoreless ninth.
Reitano led the Trojans with five RBI. Callaway collected three hits, including a double, and two RBI while Gaeta drove in a pair with two hits.
