Mount Olive (April 9-10th) – The Trojans wrapped up a successful weekend, concluding their second home meet of the season, with Provo performances from multiple athletes and top finishes from all around the track and field.
On the track,
Jamavie Glover and
Jacoby Pevia took 3
rd and 5
th place finishes with 10.54 seconds and 10.6 seconds, respectively.
Zion Richardson-Keys hit the hurdles one step at a time, setting a personal record in the 110MH and putting him solidly in the top 5 in the conference with the time.
Leland Smith then put in work in the 200 m dash, sprinting 21.05 to get 2
nd place, a Provo mark, and 2
nd all-time for UMO following his performance from last weekend.
In the last of the shorter distances,
Henry Bullock managed a 48.16 second 6
th place finish in the 400m.
Into the middle distance, Artem Melsaiev ran a blistering 1:54.01 to place first, putting him second in the entire conference for the event.
Finishing 5
th in the long distance,
Josh Hendren ran a 4:22.34 and helped hold pace for
Ayden Thompson, who ran a 4:20.4, 3
rd place finish for the 1500m. Thompson also ran the 5000m the night before, finishing 3rd with a time of 15:57.86.
Moving on to the relays, the Trojans put forward the team of
Jacoby Pevia,
Leland Smith,
Jamavie Glover, and
Zion Richardson-Keys in the 4x100, smashing a 41.28 second run to place 2
nd.
In the 4x400m,
Travelius Leach,
Zachary Broadus,
Titus Tanui, and
Henry Bullock ran a 3:17.68 to finish in the gold medal position
.
Now moving from the track and into the jumps, Richardson-Keys finished out the busy day in the Long Jump with a monster jump of 7.36 meters, finishing 3
rd in the competition, a Provo mark, and 2
nd all-time for Mount Olive.
Kobe Jones finished close behind with another top 3 all-time finish with a mark of 7.34, finishing 4
th.
In the High Jump, Jones also finished 2
nd overall, clearing the bar at 1.97 meters.
Kavon Poindexter finished just behind in 4
th place with a jump of 1.92 meters.
Moving to the throws,
Sigursteinn Asgeirsson continued his dominance with a 16.48-meter, 1
st place finish in the shot put, finishing ahead of
Chris Harris, who placed 7
th with a throw of 13.89 meters.
Harris also finished 3
rd in the discus with a massive throw of 46.37 meters, but was beaten out by
Antoine King, who improved his personal best again, throwing a Provo mark of 55.69 meters, which puts him 6
th in the nation, 2
nd all-time at UMO, and first in the competition.
Moving on to the hammer throw,
Micah Harrison and
Matthew Heywood put together a 5
th and 6th-place finish with throws of 53.76 and 52.89 meters.
Finally, in the Javelin, Harris and Asgeirsson duked it out for gold and silver, with throws of 46.58 and 45.01 meters to take the top two places in the competition.
The Trojans look to continue setting records this weekend when they travel to North Carolina A&T on Friday and Saturday.
