WINSTON-SALEM – After totaling 132.5 points and four first place marks on the final day, the University of Mount Olive men's track & field team won at the Conference Carolina's Indoor Championships hosted at the JDL Fast Track.
Mount Olive was able to reclaim their winning spot after losing to Converse by a mere three points in last years championships. This year the Trojans were able to beat Converse (124) by eight and a half points and Belmont Abbey (84.5) by 48 points. The men's team was able to tally points in 11 of the 17 events over the two days of competition, including three event champions.
In the 200m, Senior
Jason Hart scored five points and Junior Zion Richardson Keys scored one point for the Trojans. Then in the 400m Freshman
Henry Bullock (5) and Sophomore
Travelius Leach (4) scored a total of nine points in their event. In the 800m, Sophomore
Titus Tanui placed third with a time of 1:55.68 scoring 6 points. Richardson Key also ran to 60m hurdles adding one point to the board for Mount Olive.
The 4x400m is where the Trojans shined on the track with
Travelius Leach,
Jason Hart,
Titus Tanui, and
Henry Bullock placing first and gaining 10 points with a total time of 3:17.58.
Freshman Artem Maltsaeiv, placed second in the mile scoring eight points with a time of 4:17.44 minutes while teammate Leo Pwell followed suit just .27 seconds behind taking third place.
In the field the Trojans were able to add 86.5 total points to bring Mount Olive their gold. In high jump, Reshirt Senior
Kobe Jones placed second with a height of 1.95 meters and Senior
Kavon Poindexter placed fourth with a height of 1.90 meters. Long jump Richardson Key placed fourth with a leap of 7.11 meters and Jones placed eighth with a leap of 6.79 meters.
In triple jump, UMO scored 22 of the possible 39 points with four individuals among the top eight scorers in the event. Sophomore
Ryan Wilson-McCoy had a triple jump leap of 14.93 meters, .13 meters longer than last years conference championship winning leap. Senior
Brendin Marks finished third with a distance of 14.01 meters.
The Trojans recorded 24 points in the shot put, highlighted by Junior
Sigursteinn Asgeirsson, who produced a distance of 16.28 meters to place first overall, .62 meters more than last year. Freshman
Will Poindexter also reached the podium with a third-place finish in the event with a toss of 14.77 meters.
In weight throw, the men scored 22 of the 39 possible points and took five of the eight scoring spots. Sophomore
Antoine King threw a conference, meet, first place record of 18.63 meters. Junior,
Matthew Heywood also reached the podium with a third place finished of 16.73 meters.
