Box Score FAIRFAX, Va. – The University of Mount Olive men's volleyball team dropped a straight-set decision to George Mason on Friday evening, falling 25-22, 25-22, 25-18 at the Recreation Athletic Complex.
The Trojans competed closely early, keeping each of the first two sets within reach before the Patriots pulled away late. Mount Olive was led offensively by
Kory Grant, who finished with a team-high eight kills to go along with four digs.
Brooks Ignosci added seven kills, while
Christos Savvidis and
Maksim Kazanov chipped in six apiece.
Setter
Jackson Lahey directed the Mount Olive offense with a 23-assist, 11-dig double-double, helping the Trojans stay competitive in serve receive and transition play. At the net, Mount Olive totaled four team blocks, with contributions spread across the lineup.
Despite strong individual efforts, George Mason's blocking and offensive efficiency proved to be the difference, as the Patriots recorded 12.5 team blocks and hit over .250 for the match. Mount Olive battled throughout but was unable to sustain momentum in the decisive moments of each set.
The Trojans return home for their home opener on Friday, Feb. 6, hosting the University of Charleston at 4 p.m. inside Kornegay Arena.
