Mount Olive Defeats Erskine 3-1 for Sixth Straight Victory

MOUNT OLIVE – The University of Mount Olive men's volleyball team extended its winning streak to six matches with a 3-1 victory over Erskine on Friday evening inside Kornegay Arena.

After dropping the opening set 25-18, Mount Olive responded in dominant fashion, taking the next three sets 25-21, 25-19, and 25-16 to secure the conference win and continue its strong late-season push.

With the victory, the Trojans improve to 14-7 overall and 11-2 in Conference Carolinas play, while also moving to an impressive 7-1 record on their home floor this season.


Mount Olive was powered by a balanced offensive effort, led by Matthew Ekberg's match-high 15 kills on an efficient .429 hitting percentage. Kory Grant added 10 kills, while Brooks Ignosci contributed seven. Setter Jackson Lahey orchestrated the offense with 31 assists and added a match-high nine service aces to keep Erskine off balance throughout the contest.


Defensively, the Trojans were strong at the net, recording 15 total blocks, with Ekberg leading the way with eight total blocks (three block solos and five block assists). The back row also contributed with 41 team digs, helping Mount Olive maintain control after the opening set.


After falling behind early, Mount Olive found its rhythm in the second set and never looked back, closing out the match with its most efficient performance in the fourth set, hitting .474 to seal the win.


The Trojans will return to Kornegay Arena tomorrow for Senior Day as they host Emmanuel at 2 p.m.
