Five Trojans qualify for NCAA Outdoor Championships

INDIANAPOLIS (May 13) – The University of Mount Olive women's track & field program qualified five individuals across four events for the 2025 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships on May 22-24 at the CSU Pueblo ThunderBowl in Pueblo, Colorado.

Freshman Futoria Harris will participate in the 100-meter dash and junior Channie Jefferson qualified for the 100-meter hurdles. Freshman Janara Bryant and senior Karla Hormazabal will compete in the triple jump, while sophomore Elin Rydqvist will participate in the hammer throw. The Trojans led the Conference Carolinas in overall qualifiers and will be one of five programs from the league to feature at least one athlete on the national stage.

Harris will make her second appearance at nationals after qualifying for the indoor championships this winter. Harris registered her NCAA mark during the final week of the season at the Mount Olive Final Qualifier with a time of 11.46 seconds. Harris ranks No. 19 in the field and will compete in the 100-meter preliminaries on Thursday, May 22, at 8:10 p.m. (EST).

A native of Richmond, Virginia, Jefferson will travel to the ThunderBowl for the second time in her career while making her third appearance at outdoor nationals. She holds the 19th overall position in the qualifying field after crossing the line in 13.66 seconds at the Trojan Challenge on March 28-29. Jefferson will participate in the 100-meter hurdle preliminaries on Friday, May 23, at 8:35 p.m. (EST).

In the triple jump, the duo of Bryant and Hormazabal return to nationals after competing at indoor championships and will each compete at outdoors for the first time in their careers. Bryant, the 2025 Women's Outdoor Freshman of the Year, has delivered a stellar spring campaign and boasts the second-best mark in NCAA Division II. She set her national qualifying mark at the Conference Carolinas Championship with a conference, meet, and school record of 13.10 meters to win the event. Hormazabal secured her spot on the national stage at the Mount Olive First Chance meet last week following a leap of 12.55 meters, which ranked ninth in the nation. The tandem will compete on Saturday, May 24, in the triple jump at 7:30 p.m. (EST).

Rydqvist will travel to the national championships for the first time in her career after qualifying in the hammer throw. She ranks No. 21 in the event with a toss of 56.63 meters this season, which she achieved at the Conference Carolinas Championship to capture the individual title. Rydqvist will compete in the hammer throw on Thursday, May 22, at 2:30 p.m. (EST).
