GREENSBORO, N.C. (April 19) – In the final tune-up ahead of the league championship, the University of Mount Olive track & field program set six NCAA Provisional marks at the Aggie Invitational hosted by North Carolina A&T.
Freshman
Janara Bryant rewrote the record books once again and set two NCAA marks after another outstanding performance this weekend. In the triple jump, she finished as the runner-up following a UMO record leap of 12.85 meters on her second attempt. Her mark set a new Conference Carolinas record surpassing the previous mark of 12.82 meters held by Zai Fraser of Lees-McRae, which was established in 2021. Additionally, Bryant remains second in NCAA Division II in the triple jump and eclipses the 12.50m USATF U20 qualifying mark. In the long jump, she placed third overall with a distance of 6.03 meters, which set a new Mount Olive record.
In the 100 meters, three Trojans reached the NCAA Provisional standard, including a pair eclipsing the mark for the first time this season. Freshman
Futoria Harris set the fastest time in the Conference Carolinas and reached the USATF U20 mark after crossing the line in 11.63 seconds, which ranks third all-time at Mount Olive. On the men's side, junior
Jason Hart set a time of 10.43 seconds, which sits third all-time at UMO and is tied for second in the league this year. Fellow junior
Jamavie Glover established a time of 10.47 seconds to reach the NCAA standard for the second time this outdoor campaign. Additionally, in the 100m, freshman
Leland Smith set the eight-best time in program history at 10.62 seconds.
In the hammer throw, graduate student
Dominic Nutter captured first place with a toss of 58.98 meters, which hit the NCAA provisional mark. Additionally, sophomore
Matthew Heywood placed sixth following a distance of 48.42 meters.
Sophomore
MacKenna Gallon posted a fifth-place finish in the javelin with a season-best toss of 32.88 meters.
Junior
Kenisha Barnes placed sixth in the discus with a season-best distance of 41.48 meters, which ranks fifth all-time at UMO.
The 4x100 men's relay team of freshman
Jacoby Pevia, Hart, junior
Zyshone White, and Glover recorded a season-best time of 40.94, ranking second in the Conference Carolinas.
Junior
Channie Jefferson hit the league standard in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:05.25, while freshman
Zaria Washington reached the conference mark in the 100-meter hurdles after crossing the line in 16.18 seconds.
Fellow junior
Haniyyah Johnson establish a league championship mark in the shot put with a toss of 11.89 meters, which ranks fourth in the conference.
Senior
Karla Hormazabal delivered a season-best leap of 5.40 meters in the long jump, while freshman
Wonderful Fadipe also set a season-best mark of 13.88 meters in the triple jump.
The Trojans return to action next weekend on April 24-26 at the Conference Carolinas Championships, which will be hosted in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
